The ENERGY STAR® New Homes program makes more opportunities for participating builders.
BGE, Delmarva Power, and Pepco are proud to sponsor the ENERGY STAR New Homes program for more than 70 builders throughout the area. Participating builders are committed to making homes that are an average of 20% more energy efficient than standard new homes built to code.*
Through this program, builders earn up to $4,950 in financial incentives. Plus, builders receive marketing assistance to help grow their businesses.

“Our commitment to sustainability and efficiency aligns seamlessly with the standards of the ENERGY STAR program, ensuring that our homes not only meet but exceed energy performance expectations,” said Sandeep Kainth, CFO of Mid‑Atlantic Builders.
As a participating builder with BGE’s ENERGY STAR New Homes program, Mid-Atlantic Builders earns thousands in incentives for including low-consumption products in these townhomes. On average, Mid-Atlantic Builders estimates their residents could save up to 60% on their energy bills—delivering incredible value for buyers.

BGE provides builders with technical guidance, resources, and a network of support that makes the process of achieving ENERGY STAR certification more streamlined and efficient. It’s a win-win.”
Housing Initiative Partnership and Pepco Bring Clean
Energy Innovation to Fairmount Heights.
Housing Initiative Partnership (HIP) is partnering with Pepco to build six modular, net-zero homes in Fairmount Heights, Md.
Net‑zero homes use a combination of specialized construction, energy-efficient appliances, and renewable energy sources to produce as much energy as they consume. The homes also include an independent microgrid, which Pepco will help maintain, as well as solar power. To purchase one of these homes, prospective customers must be first-time homebuyers who earn 80% or less of the area’s median income.
“Pepco’s involvement was a critical component to this partnership, and we could not build the community solar microgrid without them,” said Stephanie Prange Proestel, Executive Director of HIP.
